Thank you for your interest in Tropical Enterprises.  Since 1989 we have been offering unique, high quality, hand crafted gifts and accessories from talented artisans and small craft family workshops at reasonable prices.

We work in Bali, Indonesia. We fell in love with Bali, her spiritual people and art on our honeymoon and started our business.

Our philosophical approach strives to integrate cultural sensitivity and appropriate technology.  Our handicrafts are produced in environmently friendly conditions utilizing plantation grown woods, sustainable materials and non-toxic paints. When appropriate we build and subsidize workhops with kitchens and toilets providing for good nutrition and sanitation.

We promote indigenous crafts of the local artisans and help young artists by teaching them basic business and entreprenurial skills.

There is no specific word for art in the Balinese language. To the Balinese everyday is holy and therefore religion and art are inseperable parts of daily life.Traditionally art is created by the Balinese as an offering to their gods. It is in the process of creating art that one merges with the Divine Spirit.

For weeks while creating and developing our own exclusive designs for the American and European markets we live in the mountains near the workshops with a Balinese family. Our room overlooks tropical rice fields, fragrant gardens, coconut, banana groves, and 3 mountains looming in the distance. Notwithstanding the 5am rooster crowings, there is a rare harmony between Bali's lush tropical nature and its lush art.

Our business practises go way beyond "Fair Trade".  Out goal is to hire the best people and pay above average wages to ensure their economic prosperity and our quality.

We have long relationships with many of our vendors and have been privileged to becoming "family" to many of them. We are now delighted to offer these wonderful products to you from our global family and hope they will bring you pleasure, enjoyment and inspiration.
